AVELOR SUMMARY
Peppermint oil (enteric-coated) is one of the best-evidenced herbal treatments for IBS — a 2019 meta-analysis of 12 RCTs (835 patients) found it reduced IBS symptoms by 2x vs placebo. Menthol activates TRPM8 (cold receptor) and blocks L-type calcium channels in intestinal smooth muscle → antispasmodic. IBgard® and Colpermin® are the studied enteric-coated products. MUST be enteric-coated (prevents menthol release in stomach → heartburn). Dose: 200mg peppermint oil 3x/day before meals.
