Glycerol
MODERATE EVIDENCESupplementLast updated
AVELOR SUMMARY
Glycerol is a 3-carbon sugar alcohol used in sports nutrition as a hyperhydration agent. Ingesting 1-1.5g/kg glycerol with 25-30mL/kg water increases total body water by 600-1,000mL — 'super-hydrating' before exercise in heat. Reduces HR, increases sweat rate, and delays dehydration. HydroMax® (65% glycerol powder) replaced liquid glycerol for practicality. WADA removed glycerol from the Prohibited List in 2018. Dose: 1-1.5g/kg body weight with water, 60-90 minutes before exercise.
