Bitter Orange
MODERATE EVIDENCESupplementLast updated
AVELOR SUMMARY
Synephrine from bitter orange is the most common ephedra replacement in fat burners. It activates beta-3 adrenergic receptors (fat cell-specific) more selectively than ephedrine, with less beta-1/2 stimulation (less cardiac effects). A 2012 meta-analysis found synephrine increased metabolic rate by 65 kcal/day without significant BP or HR increase at standard doses. Dose: 10-50mg synephrine. Advantra Z® is the branded extract. NOT the same as ephedrine — more selective receptor profile. Still use caution with other stimulants.
