Butcher's broom is a European herb for chronic venous insufficiency. Ruscogenins (steroidal saponins) activate alpha-1 adrenergic receptors on venous smooth muscle — CONSTRICTING veins to improve venous return. A 2002 meta-analysis found it significantly reduced CVI symptoms. Dose: 300-450mg/day standardized to 7-11mg ruscogenins. Often combined with hesperidin and vitamin C. Fagorutin® and Ruscovar® are branded extracts.
