AVELOR SUMMARY
Chinese herb used as a CHEAPER substitute for ginseng. Contains codonopilates and codonopsine with adaptogenic, immune-modulating, and hematopoietic (blood-building) activity. In TCM, prescribed for fatigue, poor appetite, and spleen qi deficiency. A 2008 study found codonopsis polysaccharides increased red blood cell count and hemoglobin. Much less studied than Panax ginseng. Dose: 3-9g dried root (traditional TCM) or 500-1,000mg extract.
